The 46-year old actor was born on 27th December 1965 as Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan to famous screenwriter Salim Khan and his wife Salma. He has four siblings- brothers Arbaaz and Sohail, and sisters Alvira and Arpita. Salman’s first film was ‘Biwi Ho To Aisi’ in which he was a supporting character.
Salman’s first full-fledged film as a lead actor was ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ in 1989. The film fetched him the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. After a mixture of successes and failures, Khan tasted major success with Rajshri Productions’ film ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’ which became among the highest grossing films of all times.
Some of Salman’s major hits include ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Khamoshi’, ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’ and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. The latter earned him the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for the second time. The string of success continued with ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’, ‘Biwi No. 1’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Tere Naam’, ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, ‘No Entry’, ‘Partner’ and ‘Wanted’, with occasional flops in between.
Salman starred in Arbaaz Khan-produced blockbuster film ‘Dabangg’, which won him the Best Actor Award at Star Screen Awards and the Stardust Award for Star of the Year- Male. His next films ‘Ready’ and ‘Bodyguard’ were also highest-grossing films at the box office.
Salman also hosted shows like ’10 Ka Dum’ and ‘Bigg Boss 5’ on television. He founded an NGO called Being Human.
Salman has been linked to co-stars like Sangeeta Bijlani, Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif. He was involved in major controversies like drunken and rash driving, where he was accused of having killed people sleeping on the pavement. He is also known for his cold war with actor Shah Rukh Khan.
