You know her best as Roop, Geet’s sister in Imtiaz Ali’s blockbuster hit ‘Jab We Met’. Yes, that’s Saumya Tandon- the pretty, bubbly actress and anchor who is fast becoming a popular face in television.
Saumya was born on 3rd November 1984. Given that her father was a professor and Head of the English Department at Vikram University in Ujjain, Saumya too had a literary bent of mind. She is a poetess. Her book called ‘Meri Bhavnayein’ is a collection of poems composed by her, and was nominated for Modi Young Writer National Award.
Saumya took to modeling as a career quite early, and was the first runner-up at a ‘Femina Cover Girl’ contest. She eventually did a few ad films before auditioning for a television soap called ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’ in 2005. She bagged the role of Rusty, a half-Brit girl.
She made her debut in films by playing the role of Roop, Kareena’s sister, in Imtiaz Ali’s romantic film ‘Jab We Met’. Saumya also appeared in a 30-minute film that was produced by Maya, a production house based in Canada.
Saumya has hosted several TV shows. She was seen doing on-ground anchoring in ‘Zor Ka Jhatka’, the Indian version of a popular game show ‘Wipeout’. She also hosts Bournvita Quiz Contest along with quizmaster Derek O’Brien. The show airs on TV channel Colors.
Saumya has been a regular face at the Dance India Dance dancing reality show. She has been hosting all the seasons of the show, ever since it began in 2009. She had successfully anchored DID Season 1, DID Season 2, DIDS Li’l Masters, DID Doubles, DID Superstars and is currently hosting DID Season 3.
Saumya hosted popular comedy show ‘Comedy Circus Ke Taansen’ on Sony TV. She bagged the Best Anchor on Indian Television Award in 2010. Her cheerful disposition and beautiful appearance has made her a regular TV anchor in various TV shows.
