The teenager who kick-started the presence of India in the Miss Universe beauty pageant is none other than our very own Sushmita Sen. The Bong beauty was born on 19th November 1975 and was the winner of Femina Miss India in 1994. She beat co-contestant Aishwarya Rai and went on to win the 1994 Miss Universe crown in Manila, Philippines.
Soon, Sushmita chose to step into the film industry. She made her debut in Dastak in 1996 and also starred in Tamil blockbuster film ‘Ratchagan’ in 1997. She won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award for her role in David Dhawan’s comedy flick ‘Biwi No.1’ in 1999. She also earned a nomination in the same category for her character in ‘Sirf Tum’ and won the Zee Cine Award for Best Supporting Actress for ‘Filhaal’.
In 2004, Sushmita was seen playing the role of a hot and sexy Chemistry teacher in Farah Khan’s ‘Main Hoon Na’, starring Shah Rukh Khan. The film was a huge success and became the second highest grossing movie of that year.
The 5 ft 10 inch tall actress was also noted in films like ‘Samay: When Time Strikes’, ‘Chingaari’, ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?’, ‘Main Aisa Hi Hoon’, ‘Bewafaa’, ‘Zindaggi Rocks’, ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’, ‘Do Knot Disturb’, ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ and ‘No Problem’.
Sushmita has three major projects in hand as of now. She will portray Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto in a film titled ‘Benazir Bhutto: The Movie’.
