A Bengali beauty with a husky voice and immense acting talent- that is how we define Rani Mukherji. Rani was born on 21st March 1978 to a Bengali family, associated with the film industry.
Rani’s first appearance in films was a cameo in a Bengali film called ‘Biyer Phool’. Her first full-fledged debut in Bollywood was ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’, for which she received a Star Screen Special Jury Recognition Award.
Her 1998 film ‘Ghulam’ was average, but its song ‘Aati Kya Khandala’ became immensely popular. Her next blockbuster film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ went on to earn her the first Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Rani then appeared in a series of unsuccessful films like Mehendi, Hello Brother, Hey Ram, Bichhoo, and so on.
Her success phase began when she received the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for her role in the film ‘Saathiya’. She also won her second Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Yuva’. Then came Kunal Kohli’s ‘Hum Tum’, for which she received several awards, including the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
Rani’s next film ‘Veer Zaara’ was a blockbuster hit. Another milestone film of her life was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Black’ where she played the role of a deaf-blind-mute girl. She won the Filmfare award for Best Actress and Best Actress Critics. Rani’s role as a con-woman in ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ again earned her the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
Rani then starred in films like ‘Paheli’, ‘Mangal Pandey’, ‘Baabul’ and ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’. The latter won her the IIFA Best Actress Award as well.
From the year 2007 onward, Rani experienced a setback in her career with many of her films like ‘Ta Ra Rum Pum’, ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’, ‘Saawariya’, ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’ and ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’. In 2011, her role in ‘No One Killed Jessica’ earned her the third Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.










Rani was a judge on the television reality show ‘Dance Premier League’ in 2009. Besides this, she has also done several TV commercials. Rani will be seen in Reema Kagti’s upcoming flick ‘Talaash’ and in Sachin Kundalkar’s ‘Aiyaa’.
