Malaika was born on 23rd August 1973 to a Punjabi father and a Malayali Catholic mother. She completed her schooling from Swami Vivekananda School, Chembur and Holy Cross High School, Thane. She is an alumnus of Jai Hind College, Churchgate.
Malaika landed the job of an MTV VJ when MTV started operating in India. Gradually, she rose to the position of an interviewer and soon became a prominent figure in urban India. She also anchored many award functions and events on television.
