Among the most talented actresses of the film industry, Konkona Sen Sharma is a dusky Bengali beauty who has carved a niche for herself in art house Bengali, Hindi as well as English cinema. She was born on 3rd December 1979 in New Delhi.
Being the daughter of a science journalist Mukul Sharma and Bengali actress and filmmaker Aparna Sen, she inherited the creative bent of mind and took to acting at age four as a child artist in ‘Indira’. She made her adult debut in Bengali film ‘Ek Je Aachhe Kanya’ in 2000.
In 2001, she played a Tamil housewife in ‘Mr. and Mrs. Iyer’, which was directed by her mother. The film won much critical acclaim and Konkona was awarded the National Film Award for Best Actress. Her next films ‘Page 3’ and ’15 Park Avenue’ were also critically appreciated. Her role in 2006 film ‘Omkara’ earned her Best Supporting Actress awards.
Konkona’s performance in films like ‘Dosar’ and ‘Life in a… Metro’ won her much recognition. She received her second Filmfare Award for the latter. She also starred in ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’, ‘Aaja Nachle’ and ‘Dil Kabaddi’, but these failed at the box office. Konkona married actor Ranvir Shorey on 3rd September 2010 and gave birth to her first son on 15th March 2011.
