Dia Mirza was born to Frank Handrich, a German interior designer, artist and architect who hailed from Munich and Deepa, a Bengali Hindu woman who is also an interior designer. When Dia Mirza was 6 years old, her mother separated from her father and then when she was nine her father died. Later her mother married Ahmed Mirza. Dia Mirza used the surname of her stepfather for a long time. Ahmed Mirza died in the year 2004. Currently she also adopted the surname of her biological father and therefore she is now known as Dia Mirza Handrich.
Early Career
Dia Mirza attended the Vidyaranya High School for Boys and Girls in Khairatabad, Hyderabad and afterwards went to the Nasr School located at the same place. Later she joined the Stanley Junior College and completed her graduation from the Andhra Pradesh Open University located in Hyderabad.
She started working at a tender age of 16 while studying at the same time. She was the marketing executive at a multi media firm named Dr. Neeraj’s multimedia studio. Later she took part in a number of advertisements for both television and well as for the newspaper. Some of the advertisements were of Emami, Lipton and Walls. Her modeling assignments came in between her and her achieving a bachelor’s degree.
Dia Mirza became the second runner up at the Femina Miss India 2000 pageant. She was sent to compete at the Miss Asia Pacific where she won the crown on 3 December 2000 in Manila.
