SRK, Akshay Kumar & Sunny Deol - Who will rule Diwali 2012?

Passions will be running high in Bollywood in 2012. Fireworks in Diwali 2012 will be grand and ala as not one or two but three stalwarts of Indian cinema - King Khan Shah Rukh, Entertainer Akshay and macho Sunny Deol will be fitting for supremacy at the B.O.

We all know that SRK much awaited romancer with none other than Yash Chopra starring Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma was scheduled for a Diwali 2012 release. Akshay opened the battlefield by announcing his arrival as 'Khiladi 786 Made in Punjab'.

Now Suny Deol who has found a new lease of life after 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' has made the battle more interesting by planning to release his ambitious 'Ghayal Returns' on Diwali 2012.

The irony is none of the movies has gone on floors as yet and Sunny is planning to break the auspicious coconut for his film on January 2012.

Sunny's 'Ghayal 2' heads for interiors

More than a decade back his 'Ghatak' had started off in Banaras while his 'Arjun Pandit' too had it's bearing in a North India small town. His 'Gadar' was set in Punjab and another upcoming film of his, 'Mohalla 80', is again set in Banaras. Now even 'Ghayal Returns' would be set in a small town, hence continuing the trend for Sunny Deol.

"Actually it is a good trend which is picking up and more and more actors and filmmakers are open to exploring different options for their film's setting. Since the line between class and mass audience is diminishing and multiplexes are mushrooming in smaller cities and towns as well, it makes sense to bring real India into the films," says a script writer.

On contacted Ashwini Chaudhary, director of 'Ghayal Returns', did confirm that the film would be shot in the interiors of India. "Yes, we would be shooting in Bhopal and Gwalior. Ek zameen se judi hui story hai yeh. Since I also come from such galli-mohalla, it makes it even easier and interesting to shoot the film in such surroundings.

Sunny too is mighty excited about getting into this zone after the Bombay setting of 'Ghayal'. The sequel will present him in a different light," he says.

All eyes on 'Ghayal Returns' as Deols plan big

Couple of decades back it was 'Ghayal' (1990) with which Dharmendra and Sunny Deol had established their production house 'Vijayta Films'. However ever since the super-success of the film, the banner has seen a slew of commercial failures with 'Barsaat' being the only exception.

Informs a trade analyst, "'Dillagi' and 'Socha Na Tha' with Sunny, Bobby and Abhay were flops. The last straw was 'Chamku' which was an unmitigated disaster. Post that 'The Man' with Sunny was never completed while 'Cheers - Celebrate Life' with Dharmendra and Bobby hasn't moved beyond the announcement stage."

This is when 'Yamla Pagla Deewana', though with outside producers, came as a shot in the arm for the Deol family. It was obvious that with others raking in moolah on the combined Deol power, it was high time that a film was designed for their own production house. The result is 'Ghayal Returns' which would mark the comeback of Deols as producers.

"Yes, Dharamji is a lot involved in 'Ghayal Returns'. He is quite kicked about the film's script," says Ashwini Chadhary, 'Ghayal Returns' director, "I have managed a very good comfort level with Deols as he they are just the right guidance I could have asked."

Hope with 'Ghayal Returns', Deols indeed manage to resurrect their production house and get back in the reckoning. The film goes on floors later this year.
